900 200 105These are asphalt mixes that are manufactured and applied at room temperature, without the need of heating the aggregates or the bituminous binder, using asphalt emulsions. Depending on the composition and type of mixture, at CEPSA we have designed different emulsions to optimize the performance of the mixture.
Close-graded cold asphalt mixes are composed of well-graded aggregates with a high proportion of fine material, and stable emulsions without fluidizers. They also need pre-packing water to distribute the emulsion evenly over the entire aggregate surface. These mixes have a low void content (4-8%) and high mechanical strength, due to the internal friction of the mineral skeleton and the cohesion of the mortar formed by the finer fraction and the residual binder of the emulsion. The emulsion recommended for this application complies with the specifications set out in the UNE-EN 13808.
Gravel-emulsion is a homogeneous mixture of continuous particle size aggregates, slow-breaking bituminous emulsion, water and, occasionally, additives, which are manufactured and laid on site at room temperature. In this mixture, the emulsion preferentially envelops the fine aggregates, giving rise to a mortar that binds the coarser aggregates, which do not have to be completely enveloped but which provide high internal friction to resist the effects of the action of traffic.
The emulsions recommended for this application comply with the specifications set out in the UNE-EN 13808 (cationic) and UNE 51603 (anionic) standards.
Open-graded cold asphalt mixes are the result of the combination of coarse aggregates with a bituminous emulsion and occasionally additives, the manufacturing process of which does not require to heat the components beforehand. The mixture can be stored and should be able to be spread and compacted at room temperature. The emulsions recommended for this application comply with the specifications set out in the UNE-EN 13808 (cationic) and UNE 51603 (anionic) standards.
